Goodbye Animal Farm, hello Hunger Games and Kite Runner! We are moving on in young adult literature. You may still see some classics creep their way into the classroom in other capacities, but our focus will be on more modern literature. This is a mixed bag of concern for me. On one hand, I know the interest and understanding will be higher with the new books...but on the other, I worry we will be missing something by leaving out works from the past. Even Shakespeare was modern at one time, though...right?? I have to trust we will be able to find examples and study with the same literary rigor as we did with the old works. Looking forward to new things!
Well, 2012 is here...maybe this would be a good year to explore conspiracy theories (Mayan calendar, anyone??) In the meantime, this semester will be a short one for me--I have an interim teacher coming to replace me during maternity leave in March. Mrs. O'Bryan will have a wonderful pick and I'm sure the students will continue learning and have a smooth transition. To help prepare, I went ahead and planned the entire semester and you can download a quick-view of the calendar on the calendar link. I'll keep you all informed! Happy New Year:)
Mrs. A. So, I have to tell you guys...I do not add students on facebook until you graduate! You may see a random few slip through (I have a few kiddos whom I know from outside school that were on there before I knew they were CHS students.:)
But, that doesn't mean you can't know more about me! (That's what the blog is for and it's created just for you guys:) Also, here's a wordling of my recent facebook stuff--check it out. You'll be doing one too! I am the mother of three wonderful girls and have #4 on the way...my girls are really into being girly! They love ballet, tumbling, dressing up, jewelry, American Girl Dolls, performing...could go on forever:) Emmaline is 10 and in 5th grade at E.L. Ross, Isabel is 7 and in 2nd grade at Yates, Julia is 4 and going into Kindergarten! I am also married to an awesome tech-geek/athlete, Christopher, and we've been together since we were 16 (awwwww!) and married for 12 years. He's amazing:) We also have a Jack Russell-Fiest pound puppy, Rogue, who is hilarious and a great entertainment to our family. Check them all out in the quick photostory below: Welcome students and parents! This blog is very simply a personal snapshot of me--things I find humorous, my personal reading, my family, and my thoughts on our class. Please email me or feel free to comment! For example...I'm a runner...the crazy kind. I have done a 1/2 marathon, several short runs, and I was part of a team that ran 195 miles without actually stopping to sleep or eat! I was in the midst of my first marathon train when I found out we are expecting Adkins baby #4...so that one is postponed till next year. But until then... |
