Formal Assessments
· Quiz 1: 9/13, chapters 1-7
· Quiz 2: 9/17, chapters 8-11
· Quiz 3: 9/20, chapters 12-19
· Quiz 4: 9/25, chapters 20-27
Annotations due on every quiz date . A form will be provided and the information should include:
§ Five sentence summary by chapter.
§ A “facebook” status for each character per chapter. The status should include an example of figurative language as the status as well as the “check in” place and reference to the plot or a specific conflict.
§ Three vocabulary words, defined and reference by page number and sentence.
§ Theme information (self-selected theme to be followed throughout the book).
In-class projects to be completed
· Capitol propaganda commercials
· District support posters
· Where would we be? (Map of the districts according to current U.S. industry.)
· The Hunger Games field day
· Two essays
· Socratic seminar (Get a date with Katniss? Who would win in the arena? Could this really happen? Discussion of themes?)
Projects outside of class
· 9/21 The Feast (along with Socratic seminar)
o Bring a food to share.
o You must justify what you bring by connecting it to one of the districts.
o Explanations will be presented before the feast begins!
· 9/26 Dress up day (prepare before class begins, will be on field day)
o Dress like your assigned district(s).
o Districts will be assigned according to a “reaping” and you will have time in advance to decide on your district theme.
· 9/28 Visual representation (map, diorama, sculpture, etc.)
o You may represent any location or scene in the book.
o Representations must be visual and must be able to be left in class for a week.
o You may work with a partner, but you will share the grade (in other words, be careful who you choose!)
